After retrieving the data, it will display Help for items deemed to have problems. * Only internal settings for printers connected to the standard TCP/IP port and shared in Windows are retrieved. Internal settings for printers connected by parallel/serial/USB connections and shared in Netware, as well as those using special port monitors cannot be retrieved. 1.2.2 Checking connection with device This tool will carry out a communication test (ICMP Echo transmission) for the device, and display an error message and Help when a connection cannot be made. 1.2.3 Saving retrieved data to CSV file Use this tool to save the retrieved data to a CSV file. The saved file can be sent to the administrator for help in analyzing problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Operating Environment ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.1. Operating environment of computer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to execute this software, an environment that satisfies the following configuration is required: Hardware - CPU: An x86 compatible CPU with Pentium III 450MHz or higher - Free hard disk space: 15MB and above - Memory: Minimum as well as recommended capacity is the same as the OS requirement - Video display: at least VGA (640x480)(recommended: SVGA(800x600) and above) - CD-ROM drive, network interface Software - OS type Warranty is provided for execution on the following OS: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Professional operating system (Service Pack 4) Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional (Service Pack 2) Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2) The Software may be started up on the following OS but no warranty is provided: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Server operating system (before Service Pack 3, after Service Pack 5) Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional (before Service Pack 1, after Service Pack 3) Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition (before Service Pack 1, after Service Pack 3) - Required software environment conditions All patch fix releases by Microsoft with the following indications must be installed. + Critical + Important 2.2. Compatible models ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Tool is supported by standard MIB printers and multi-function devices manufactured by our company. (However, there are some models that do not support this tool.) NOTE Although internal settings of printers manufactured by other companies can be retrieved, no warranty or support is provided. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. About Activation ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are 2 ways to activate the tool: i. Double-click on the PNDTool.exe ii. Create a CD-R to auto activate* * You must use the CD-R creation software to write all files inside the folder in the Autorun.inf file into the top directory of CD-R. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Limitations ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 Number of printers that can be checked at one time ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although there is no limit to the number of printers that can be checked at one time, we recommend checking up to 3 printers in view of the time for retrieving data. 4.2 SNMP community name ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This tool accesses the printer by SNMP. It is essential to specify the community name when accessing the printer by SNMP. However, this tool is configured to access the printer by using the default community name of each printer. For details on changing the community name of the printer, refer to the operation manual of the printer or the Centreware Internet Services Help. If the community name of the printer has been changed, change the community name on this tool too. 4.3 Retrieving device address when the printer icon is checked ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This tool retrieves the device internal data by assigning the IP address of the device from the port name of the printer icon. Hence, the device internal data can be retrieved when the IP address of the device can be retrieved from the port name. Conversely, the device internal data cannot be retrieved when the IP address of the device cannot be retrieved from the port name. The following ports can be used to retrieve the IP address of the device: i. Standard TCP/IP port ii. SMB connection port for Fuji Xerox printers iii. Print server sharing the printer icon of the standard TCP/IP port 4.4 Display of device name under [Printer Data] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Fuji Xerox devices, the model name and Controller ROM version are displayed under the device name. 4.5 Notes on the operating environment ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes on using personal firewall: Windows XP and some anti-virus software have personal firewall functions. Enabling this function may block the network connection required by Printer Check Tool. For Windows XP: If the "Internet Connection Firewall" on Windows XP is enabled, this tool cannot retrieve data from the device. For "Virus Blaster 2004" by Trend Micro Enterprise: To use "Virus Blaster 2004" and the search for machine function by Check Tool, you must change the settings for "Personal Firewall". However, as changing these settings will lower the level of security, you are responsible for making the appropriate settings. (Example of settings) 1. On the main screen, open the [Personal Firewall] > [Personal Firewall Settings] screen. 2. From the list, select the rule name [Office Network] and click [Edit]. 3. On the [Security Level] tab, set the security level to [Low] and click [OK] to close the dialog box. 4. Return to the original screen and select the edited [Office Network] in the [Rules in use] column. 5. Click [Apply] to end the main screen. 4.6 Displaying data of virtual printer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although printers such as DocuWorks Printer and Adobe PDF Printer are found in the Printers folder and can be checked, their printer data will not be displayed as there are no such printers connected. 4.7 [Printer Status] button on the Retrieve Data Complete screen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The [Printer Status] button will not be displayed for devices that are not installed with CentreWare Internet Services. ============================================================================ Microsoft, Windows and Windows Server are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the U.S. and other countries.
