About the Fujitsu Limited TWAIN Driver ========================================== The Fujitsu Limited TWAIN Driver is for scanning images with TWAIN compliant software applications. This device driver is compliant with the TWAIN 1.7 Specification. The TWAIN programming interface, developed by the TWAIN Working Group, specifies how applications communicate with data sources via a module called the TWAIN_32.DLL. In most cases, you can think of a data source as a scanner driver. By using TWAIN, an application doesn't require any information about a data source and vice versa. Typically, each scanner provides its own data source. Using the Fujitsu TWAIN data source, you can scan images from Fujitsu scanners supported by the data source into a TWAIN compliant software program. TWAIN compliant software programs include the following two commands and can usually be located in the File Menu: - Select Source: lists the available TWAIN data sources. The Fujitsu data source is named "Fujitsu Limited TWAIN Driver". - Acquire: displays the Fujitsu TWAIN Driver window. From this window, you can modify the default scan options and start the scan process. If you have multiple Fujitsu scanners installed on the system the active scanner may be selected from this window. 2. Fujitsu TWAIN Application Compatibility =========================================== Many scanning applications support the TWAIN standard. The following applications have been tested with the Fujitsu SCSI TWAIN drivers and have been found to be compatible (any known limitations are identified): - Eastman Software's Imaging Professional Ver. 2.6 - Adobe Acrobat 5.0 - Fujitsu ScandAll21 Other TWAIN compliant applications may also work successfully with the Fujitsu TWAIN drivers but have not been tested. It is important to note these products have been merely tested for compatibility and should not be considered certified by Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. 3. Notes about the SCSI Controller and Scanner Setup for Windows 95/98/2000/NT4.0 ===================================================== 3.1 For non-plug and play (pnp) Adaptec Controllers with the Windows 95/98 Operating System: (1) Power off the system and plug in the Adaptec Controller. (2) Go to the Windows 95/98 Control Panel. Click the Add New Hardware Icon. The system will find the Host Adapter which is not the PNP device and add it to the system. (3) Click on the Device Manager Tag and you should see: Scanner SCSI Controllers - on the device list (4) Under the device list, Click on Scanner and you should see: Scanner or (Other Device) Fujitsu (FCPA) TWAIN ScanPartner (or other scanner selected) (5) Click on Fujitsu (FCPA) TWAIN ScanPartner and you should see: Device type: Scanner Manufacturer: FCPA Hardware Version: Not available Device Status: This device is working properly (6) Now click on the Setting Tag and you should see: Target ID:4 (Scanner ID No.) Firmware Ver: #.## Logical Unit Number: 0 (7) Check if the Adapter device has installed properly. Go to Device Manager, Click on SCSI Controller and you should see: Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X SCSI Host Adapter (8) Click on Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X SCSI Host Adapter and you should see: Device type: SCSI Controller Manufacturer: Adaptec Hardware Version: Not available Device Status: Device is working properly 3.2 Adaptec Controller Driver Click on the Driver Tag and you should see the Windows 95/98 device driver for the Adaptec Host Adapter. Driver files: C:\Windows\system\iosusys\AHA154X.MPD Windows 95/98 provides the SCSI controller driver for the scanner device. It is not necessary to add the ASPI manager comment line in the config.sys file. Please make sure you have the updated driver file in your system. You may down load the most up to date driver from the Adaptec BBS. The driver file AHA154X.MPD is for AHA154X series Adaptec controller and the SPARROW.MPD is for the AHA152A Adaptec controller. 3.3 Using a PNP Adaptec controller with the Windows 95/98 Operating System. (1) Power off the system, Plug in the controller. (2) Power on the system. When the system boots up, it will recognize the new hardware. Windows 95/98 will display that the new hardware has been found and will install the appropriate driver for it. (3) It maybe easier to plug in all the non-pnp devices before adding pnp devices to your system. (4) If the scanner does not work properly, click on the Device Resouce Tag to determine if there is a conflict. Refer to the hardware manufacturer's specification to correct the hardware conflict. 3.4 Scanner driver installation for NT 4.0. (1) In order to install the scanner driver successfully in the NT system, you have to log on as the system administrator. (2) There is not required to install the Winaspi.dll for this ScanPartner driver to work on the NT 4.0 system. It is very dynamic for the driver to work with the Adaptec Winaspi.dll or without it. (3) Some of our customers have reported that they experienced some difficulties to have the Twain driver worked correctly on NT 4.0 system. The error message is like "STPI error" and "Invalid Handle" when User launches scan. And if user logs on as Administrator, error does not occur. You may do as the following to correct the problem: 1. Download the ASPI32.exe from Adaptec Website and install in your NT 4.0 system. (WWW.Adaptec.com) 2. Giving file control permission to the user on the NT 4.0 system since Twain driver does read and write files consistently in the following folders: (the system temporary file folder, e.g. c:\temp), \TWAIN_32 (where WINNT is your Windows NT folder; e.g. c:\Winnt\Twain_32\). 3.5 Install the latest ASPI to the Win2000 system in order to have the scanner worked properly. You can download the ASPI32.exe from Adaptec website. www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe 4. Location of Installed Files =============================== The following is a list of files installed on your system during the installation process: a) TWAIN DLLs -- > Windows directory. TWAIN.DLL, TWAIN_32.DLL, TWUNK_16.EXE, TWUNK_32.EXE b) Shared DLLs -- > Windows System Directory. MFC42.DLL, MSVCRT.DLL c) Scanner DLLs --> \TWAIN_32\Fujitsu Directory, where is Window's directory.
