SBS 2008 hangs at welcome screen when logging in
The problem I have is that after a given time, can be a day can be 2 weeks.
Exchange will stop accepting email although the services are still running.
When you try to log onto the server you just get a blue ring at the welcome screen.
Can receive Email from Gmail In SBS 2008 (Exchange server 2007)
Are there any extra setting which I neeed to do?

I resolved this by changing the SMTP pointer on the Exchange side. On the Exchange Console --> Organization Configuration --> Hub Transport --> Send Connectors
Under the address spaces i added my SMTP for my emails and a blank SMTP
Then on the SBS console --> Network --> Connectivity --> I setup Internet email Smart Host --> Smart Host is my smtp....
monitoring and reporting not working
I have a new installation of Windows Small Business Server 2008. The installation went fine with no errors, but I have discovered that the Monitoring and Reporting services are not working. When I click on the Reports tab in console, there are no default reports, and when I try to save a new report I get a cannot save error.
I have gone through the troubleshooting that I can find, and I have found that the files mentioned in the link below are not present under the SQL Server installation.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560614(WS.10).aspx
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\SBSMonitoring.mdf
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Data\SBSMonitoring_log.ldf
There is no suggested action to take if these files are missing, it just says they are important...
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks
Phil

Problems with SBS2008 Backup
The wizard all runs through absolutely fine, backup device is
detected (external USB drive), disk is formatted through the wizard
ready for use and the time schedule is selected okay.
When the backup runs it seems to start and then eventually it fails,
looking in the log area the following message is displayed:
-
"Server backup cannot start because the drive where you want to store
the backups is not available. Ensure that any external drives are
attached to the server and then try again."
I have checked that the USB root hubs are unchecked to use sleep mode
and if I go into the Disk Management console I can see the drive
there, all labelled correctly, partition is shown as healthy primary
partition - and also as some one else has posted there is a 19mb
partition of unallocated space at the end.
Loking at the Event Viewer Log I get the following: -
+System
I have even tried three seperate hard disks in case there was a
problem, now I 'm just lost!!
Does anyone have any thoughts please?

Problem with sbs 2008 backup when rotating usb disk
We have install two brand new sbs 2008 servers for two different customers and we have the same problem :
We have configured two usb disks with the backup wizzard and performed the first backup with the first one. Next day we have exchange the disk with the other (in safe unplugging the first one) and the backup is ok too. But the following days the servers don't succeed all days to perform the backup. The report says that there isn't active disk, but there is ! And the consequence is a very slow server with an inaccessible exchange. Only reboot can make the servers accessible again.
We use Western Digital Passport USB Disk Drive 2.5".
