Quantum Device Driver

Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 (32 & 64-Bit)

This file contains instructions for installing the Quantum DLTtape™ Tape Drive device driver on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 systems. This driver is for X86 and X64 Platforms.

NOTE: This driver has been digitally signed by Microsoft.

Installing the DLTtape Device Driver on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (X86 & X64)

1. Shutdown Windows if it is running and power down the system.

2. Connect the DLTtape drive to the system.

NOTE: For SCSI devices, ensure that the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. For SATA devices, Quantum recommends that the device be attached to an independent SATA connection that is not shared with any other SATA or IDE devices.  For USB devices, Quantum recommends that the device be attached to a USB 2.0 connection. 

3. Power on the tape drive.

4. Startup the system and log into Windows.

5. The system may automatically detect the new tape drive and display the "Found New Hardware Wizard".  If the Wizard appears, proceed directly to step 6, otherwise start the Wizard manually as follows:

a. Right-click "My Computer", and select "Manage" from the drop-down menu. This will start the Computer Management applet.

b. In the left window under "System Tools", double-click "Device Manager".

c. In Device Manager, the new tape drive will be listed under either "Tape drives" or "Other devices".  Locate the entry for the new tape drive. Then double-click that entry to display the Drive Properties.

NOTE: It may be necessary to troubleshoot the system if Windows does not list the tape drive in the "Tape drives" or "Other devices" sections. Any such problems must be fixed before continuing.

d. Click the "Driver" tab. Then click the "Update Driver..." button.

e. The "Hardware Update Wizard" will start.  Proceed with step 6.

6. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)". Then click "Next".

7. In the next view, ensure that the option "Search for the best driver in these locations" is selected. Then clear the "Search removable media" box and instead select "Include this location in the search".

8. Click the "Browse..." button, and select the folder where you extracted and saved the driver files. Then click "OK".

9. Click "Next" to install the driver.

10. The next view completes the Wizard. Click "Finish". You may be prompted to reboot your system.

11. The DLTtape device driver is installed.

Installing the DLTtape Device Driver on Windows 2000 (X86)

1. Shutdown Windows if it is running and power down the system.

2. Connect the DLTtape drive to the system.

4. Startup the system and log into Windows.

5. The system may automatically detect the new tape drive and display the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard".  If the Wizard appears, proceed directly to step 6, otherwise start the Wizard manually as follows:

a. Right-click "My Computer", and select "Manage" from the drop-down menu. This will start the Computer Management applet.

b. In the left window under "System Tools", double-click "Device Manager".

c. In Device Manager, the new tape drive will be listed under either "Tape drives" or "Other devices".  Locate the entry for the new tape drive. Then double-click that entry to display the Drive Properties.

NOTE: It may be necessary to troubleshoot the system if Windows does not list the tape drive in the "Tape drives" or "Other devices" sections.  Any such problems must be fixed before continuing.

d. Click the "Driver" tab. Then click the "Update Driver..." button.

e. The "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" will start.  Proceed with step 6.

6. In the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard", click "Next" to continue.

7. Select the radio button labeled "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver". Then click "Next".

8. If the drive is unknown to the system, the next view is "Hardware Type". Otherwise, the "Select a Device Driver" view is displayed.

a. If the "Hardware Type" view appears, select either "Other devices" or "Tape drives". Then click "Next" to continue on to the "Select a Device Driver" view.

b. In the "Select a Device Driver" view, click "Have Disk...".

9. At the "Install From Disk" view, click the "Browse..." button, and then locate the folder where you saved the driver files. Select the "QntmDLT.inf" file in that folder, and click the "Open" button.

10. At the "Install From Disk" view, verify that the drive letter and path shown are correct. Then click "OK".

11. In the next view, highlight the correct Manufacturer and Model for the DLTtape tape drive being installed, and then click "Next".

12. The "Start Device Driver Installation" view is displayed.

13. Click "Next" to install the driver.

NOTE: If the Wizard should indicate that a driver already exists on the system and prompts you for a selection, select "New". When the Windows 2000 Setup window is displayed, verify the correct path to the driver, then click "Continue".

14. The next view is "Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard". Click "Finish". You may be prompted to reboot your system.

15. The DLTtape device driver is installed.
