 | A Perfect Balance The
quad-socket dual-core processor PowerEdge 6850 delivers next-generation
performance combined with a balance of internal expandability and rack
density. Perfect for database, server consolidation, virtualization and
migration from costly RISC based systems, the PowerEdge 6850 delivers
both the performance customers need with the memory capacity demanded
for growing applications. |
 | High Performance for Today... and Tomorrow Dell
continues to increase price/performance and performance per watt in its
newest generation of servers. The latest 64-bit Dual-Core Intel ® Xeon ® 7100 series processor sequence delivers performance gains of up to 123% 1 over the previous generation and better performance per watt of 129% 2. An
800MHz FSB and up to 16MB of L3 cache facilitate better speed. 64-bit
memory addressability provides scalability for large memory footprint
applications. |
 | Memory The
PowerEdge 6850 rack server offers up to 64GB of DDR-2 memory, twice the
memory capacity of the previous generation. Although it maintains the
same core functions as existing DDR memory, DDR-2 uses new features
which allow it to ramp up to support much higher speeds and higher
memory densities while using less power. |
 | Hard Drives Hot-pluggable
Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives deliver the next generation of
SCSI performance and reliability for critical business applications. Dell
features two sizing options in the hot-pluggable SAS category of hard
drives: 2.5" and 3.5". You can select up to eight 2.5" drives in the
PowerEdge 6850 which offers a max capacity of 584GB 3 at 10K rpm. For greater capacity and speed, you can choose up to five 3.5" drives and reach up to 2.0TB 3 at 10K rpm.

 | Peripherals PCI
Express I/O expansion facilitates greater I/O throughput and support
for high-bandwidth I/O peripherals such as Infiniband, 4GB fibre channel
and future 10GB Ethernet. |
Availability Without Compromise Dell
addresses the need for high availability in the PowerEdge 6850 by
providing hot-plug redundant power supplies and hard drives, plus
multiple SAS RAID options - without sacrificing expandability, and
including support for High Availability Clustering and deployment in
SANs. Redundant NICs and redundant cooling fans help keep the servers
running smoothly. | |
Setting the Standard for Manageability The
PowerEdge 6850 includes an Integrated Intelligent Platform Management
Interface (IPMI) 1.5 management controller plus an optional DRAC 4P
remote management card with continuous video and Active Directory
integration for robust remote server management. | | |
