Nikon Coolpix 5400 Reviews

Nice looking little
camera with fine ergonomics, a very well-performing wide angle Nikkor lens, and
relatively well-controlled noise throughout its sensitivity range. However, the
problems for my shooting style are legion: for starters - and most obviously -
the articulating LCD screen, though pixel-dense, is too small in my opinion. The
bigger problem, though, is the terrible AF and file-recording implementations.
Even in bright light, the autofocus is slow and seems to have a time with either
horizontal or vertical details. I had the best luck either with diagonals or
turning the camera itself to create diagonal details from horizontal or
vertical. Forget about taking candids of children unless you are clairvoyant
enough to predict their whims and manage to prefocus. more...

The 5-megapixel Nikon Coolpix
5400 delivers numerous key improvements on the Coolpix 5000, including a 4X zoom
lens, enhanced image quality, and revamped controls. Nikon also added 15 scene
modes, making this model more accessible to casual snapshooters. But make no
mistake: with its wealth of features and manual settings, the 5400 should appeal
primarily to photo enthusiasts. We only wish that the camera offered longer
battery life. more...

Nikon is one of the few
companies that you can say truly needs no introduction in the world of
photography. Their name has been identified with professional and high-end
amateur photography for a good five decades now, and they've been very
successful at translating that long history of expertise into the digital arena.
Their Coolpix product line has led the popularity charts at the high end of the
"prosumer" market segment since its introduction, and recent line extensions
have broadened its appeal to include more casual "point and shoot" photographers
as well. The key to Coolpix popularity has been the combination of excellent
picture quality with an amazing range of features, all calculated to give the
photographer maximum control over the picture-taking process, with minimal
effort. more...
