Default 24V Power supply (2x Dell SP574)

Hello everyone.

Knowing very well that there are a lot of build photos of power supplies on other forums, i still wanted to share mine here on HF.

This is one of the 2 PSU i got.

This is the inside of the refurbished unit.

To put 2 PSU's in series, one has to isolate the DC grounding on the second unit.
All i needed to do was to isolate the spot left of the output connector.
Its the spot were there is no screw now. I used a canopy grommet between the mainboard and the housing to isolate it from the housing.

There was a lever on the casing for removing it from its servercase. I took it off.

I used some "kabelschoenen" (that's Dutch) and soldered them to the connector, left side is ground, right side is 12V. I could fit 10 AWG into these and solder that as well. Providing a big contact area. Each otput is rated at 25 Amps. I will combine 3 by splitting a 12AWG wire into 3 and solder that to 3 connectors on the PSU and on big 1 output connector for the charger.

Using wood and some aluminium, I built a case tou house the 2 PSU and provide an air channel for the fan.

Here are 2 pictures of all the wires. I will have 3 pairs of outputs on both PSU's.
One 75Amp and 2 25 Amp outputs. Using a separate wire on the outside to connect the PSU's in series, if i need to.
There are also some switches. One for each PSU and a High/Low switch.
By connecting some restors between certain pins, i can increase the voltage a bit, up to around 13,5V. The fan gets power from the main 12V output of the first PSU.

This way i can use one PSU on either 12 or 13,5V or 2 on 12V or 13,5V each.
If i wire them in series i get 24 or 27V
too bad i've got 2 chargers that don't like more than 18V so those are only connected on the output of the first PSU, giving them only 12V.

This is the fan.
Just a relatively cheep computer case fan that moves a lot of air!
Using just a piece of wood beside it to channel the air through the housing.

And finaly, my charging setup.
And yes, I know, charging lipo's on a wooden workbench is asking for trouble.
It's inside a shed, more than 30 feet away from my house.
I need wo replace that workbench!!!

The Dell SP574 is used to power the Dell 6850.
It puts out 1470Watts!!!
Just one would have been sufficient, but i wanted to be able to go to 24 volts.
This way i could not only power one big charger, but also a few smaller ones at the same time.

Maybe someone gets some inspiration from my build.
Note, the golden output connectors will probably be replaced by 100W rated (insulated) connectors from hobbyking. They've got some nice female 4mm banana connectors for building PSUs etc.

Default Great charger! Schematics?

@Navajo31, Great looking setup! Do you have a schematic (even a rough one)...specifically detailing connections to the PSUs (NOT the PSUs themselves). Awesome!

What are the input requirements for that power supply? Can you run it on 110v AC or do you need 220v AC? ROG

From zooming in on the picture here, they are 200-240V input, unfortunately for us.
