SD4DP with MTA-100 connectors

The SD4DP USB board is designed to simultaneously operate up to four external step-and-direction driver boards (such as those produced by Applied Motion and Gecko1), allowing for easy control of up to four stepper motors. It also supports generation of two 0-5 volt analog output signals, for simple voltage control of external devices.

When configured with the SD4DFifoStepper firmware, the board permits independent control of the four motors.  The product includes full support of separate limit switches to protect each direction of travel for each motor.

Similarly, this board may be configured to operate in an NC (numerically controlled) process environment, through use of the SD4DFifoNCStepper firmware option.  This firmware tightly links the four motors together, providing for easy "exact straight line" and simplified arc/circle drawing.   More information about the SD4DFifoNCStepper firmware is available here.

As yet another configuration option, this board also has a high-performance general I/O firmware available, called SD4DPGenIO.  This firmware provides for monitoring of up to 7 encoder inputs, control of up to 15 TTL outputs, pulse generation, relay control, as well as numerous other features.  Click here for information about the SD4DPGenIO firmware, as provided by its PDF manual.

Key Benefits

The SD4DP has the following key capabilities when using the SD4DFifoStepper firmware:

bullet USB communications with a host computer may be used to control the board.
bullet Up to four step-and-direction stepper motor driver boards may be independently controlled at one time.
bullet Limit switches may be used to automatically request motion stop of any motor in either direction.
bullet Rates of 1 to 50,000 microsteps per second are normally supported.
bullet Step rates are changed by linearly ramping the rates; the rate of change is independently programmed for each motor, and can be from 1 to 50,000 steps per second per second.
bullet Motor coordinates are maintained as 32 bit signed values, and thus have a range of –2,147,483,647 through +2,147,483,647.
bullet Both GoTo and Slew actions are fully supported.
bullet Separate 'backlash' adjustments are available for each motor.
bullet Complete control of the motors, including total monitoring of current conditions, is available through the USB serial connection (which 'feels' to your application like a very fast COM serial line)
bullet 7 spare generic TTL I/O lines are available for input and output as needed by your application.
bullet Runs off of a single user-provided 6.5 to 15 volt or 5 volt DC power supply.
bullet Control of on-board dual 8-bit DAC's (Digital-to-Analog Converters) is fully supported
bullet SPI output support allows for generic control of many external SPI compatible devices.

1 Note that additional external signal buffering may be needed in order for the board to operate some step-and-direction controllers, such as the Gecko products.  Use of the SD4DG is recommended for such controllers.
